I've been using character.ai a lot recently, and one of the things I've noticed is that a story would never go anywhere unless I force it usually. Even though AI progress has been rapid recently, I could see it in a spot where it's just there and nothing significant would happen to humanity. The way I see it is that AI is dependent on human input, if it acted on itself then there would be more dumb interactions people would face.
